Oo, to escape the heat for this cool, white sleeping nook.

I'm drawn to the white walls and colorful accents of British author Josie Curran's houseboat/floating home.
My newly gifted heavy fiberglass dock steps make me happy. Much better than carpeted wooden steps -- fine when the boat was in a covered slip, but gross and unappealing after a single rainstorm here.

I bet tin ceiling tiles painted silver would be way too reflective on my ceiling. Shucks.

Decided the vintage cabinet didn't work. BS sawed a hole in the wall at the bow of the boat, extended the existing cupboard, and added a door and a pull-out shelf. Hidden is good. More floor space is better.

My original plan was to attach my TV to an articulating arm at the bow of the boat. Instead I found a vintage cabinet at Alameda Flea. And, of course, misjudged the space needed for the satellite box and modem. Sigh.

The winner of the Bold Colors Book giveaway is sweetsue. Congratulations! (Thanks for entering, everyone.)

On the Fourth of July, they set fireworks off from a nearby barge. Since I'm, ahem, smarter than the vet, I decided to ignore her suggestion of giving Lily Benadryl and tried Calms Forte, a homeopathic remedy, instead. Lil stayed wide awake and became so upset by the noise that she crawled in my lap. Turns out I'm not smarter than the vet, after all.
If I ever have to live in an apartment again (dear God, please, no), I want it to be like Tracey Falk's 450-square foot Vancouver apartment.

Pics of my boat from the Craigslist ad. Pretty darn different from how it looks now, I'm happy to say.
Pottery Barn's jute rug is similar to the strips of matting that you can buy at Cost Plus/World Market. The matting that was my original intention for the boat but looked too dumb. Sigh.
